Hours: Monday – Sunday, 7.5 hours, Days and Evenings – 0900-1700 and 1200-2000 (weekends required) On-call coverage as needed.

Site: Multi-site – Primarily based at Georgetown and Milton Hospitals with travel to Oakville site as needed

This is what you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, you will co-ordinate and support all relevant activities of Environmental Services. You will work closely with the management team in overseeing the day-to-day operations in a unionized (CUPE) environment.
•responsible for the operational and labour management of staff, providing employee technical and non-technical training, coaching and development, recruitment, orientation, performance and attendance management, discipline, quality audits, job shadowing and workload assessment
•preparation of the staff shift schedule, staff replacements and payroll
•work closely with the nursing units, clinical areas and other non-clinical areas/departments
•participate in patient safety activities, infection control, risk management and quality improvement to meet hospital and healthcare standards
•actively participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee at the Oakville site in addition to other committees as needed

•Post-secondary diploma, degree or related experience required
•Professional Healthcare Housekeeper’s Certificate (PHH) preferred
•Successful completion of the OHA Environmental Management Level 1 and Level 2
•Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience within a unionized environment required
•Membership or qualification to become a member of the OHHA
•Proven healthcare Environmental Services experience and working knowledge of all healthcare housekeeping and related regulated infection control practices and processes and knowledge of PIDAC, RICN etc.
•Proven ability to manage supply/labour budgets to include labour relations and compliance within the local and central collective agreements of unionized staff. Monitoring performance and hospital policies within a healthcare environment.
•Knowledge and experience with various regulatory guidelines i.e. WHMIS, Ministry Waste Guidelines, OH&S Act required
•Demonstrated ability to manage operations and staff, establishing and maintaining quality standards, infection control practices, outbreak prevention, linen utilization and the various streams of general, recycling, biomedical, hazardous and confidential waste handling etc.
•Demonstrated ability to develop and implement departmental policies and procedures and ongoing operational changes to area job routines, programs and systems to ensure continuous quality improvement.
•Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, staff development with emphasis on team building
•Strong problem-solving, decision-making and analytical skills
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
•Experience using Microsoft Access would be preferred
•Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team and have initiative to continuously improve processes.

Position Overview:

The Environmental Services Department is an essential support r services department that supports patients, staff and customers by providing and maintain a clean and sterile environment within the hospital. Service needs are met and applied in accordance with best practice standards for the enhancement of health care to ensure pro-active customer/client satisfaction. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, customer focused delivery of all the services provided by Environmental Services. Specifically, Environmental Services Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that cleanliness in all areas of the hospital meet the standards and regulations set by Environmental Services, Clinical Partners, Infection Prevention and Control, Public Health Department and Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC). EVS Supervisors are also responsible for ensuring that all staff observe Infection Control and safety requirements at all times and are working in a safe and effective manner. The EVS Supervisor is expected to represent the Department as an ambassador at all times. Supervisors are expected to model service excellence in keeping with the organizational mission statement of providing exemplary patient care always. Supervisors are responsible for modeling and adhering to the Halton Healthcare Code of Conduct and all other departmental and Corporate policies and procedures.

This is what you’ll be doing:

You will co-ordinate and support all relevant activities of Environmental Services. You will work closely with the management team in overseeing the day-to-day operations in a unionized (CUPE) environment.

•Coordinate all Environmental Services activities e.g. Housekeeping, Laundry/Linen, Patient Transport and Call Centre including policies and procedures, staffing, scheduling, work assignments, monitoring absenteeism, training, supplies and quality auditing. Work collaboratively within a supportive environment with fellow supervisors and colleagues.
•Ensure effective working relationships with all patients, staff and customers. Function as an initial point of contact for unresolved or non-routine issues requiring department feedback. (e.g. set up meetings, redirect where appropriate, provide feedback and guidance etc.)
•Act as a resource to provide expertise and education in operational, practice and infection control standards and protocols for all department service delivery. Follow the Provincial Infection Control Advisory Committee (PIDAC) best practices document for the management of disinfection and sterilization, including the Clostridium difficile document for all Health Care settings.
•Assess, plan, develop and assist with staff department/hospital/corporate education, orientation and training programs. Trained as a Fire Safety Warden for the Oakville Ensure compliance training in annual WHIMIS, Emergency Preparedness procedures and fan out lists, Back Care, Hand Hygiene and Fire Safety.
•Develop department/hospital policies and procedures and ensure safety standards, and applicable collective agreements are interpreted and followed while developing a mutual and beneficial working relationship between the staff, union (CUPE) and management.
•Manage the work performed by external contractors including purchasing of supplies and quality of service in accordance with contract and budget guidelines. Participates in product/equipment evaluation. Issues/orders appropriate supplies and equipment on a daily basis. Inspects equipment to ensure safety and quality improvements have been attained.
•Ensure quality audit processes, improvements and follow-up take place and are documented.
•Support the development of schedules, rosters, call in log sheets. Ensure schedules are posted in the time frame as outlined in the CUPE Collective Agreement (Local 815)
•Input payroll ensuring the appropriate codes are used, check to ensure accuracy working within the budget.
•Responsible for replacing sick calls and filling vacation requests in compliance with the collective agreement guidelines when the Scheduler is unavailable
•Ordering of supplies, chemicals and uniforms for staff
•Assist in the supervision, recruitment, hiring and orientation of front line staff.
•Documentation of discipline issues and audits. Work closely with Human Resources relating to effective labour relations
